The Montana Wakeboarding Championships went off this weekend @ Aqua Velocity. Riders from Montana, Washington, Wyoming, and Idaho showed up to try and test their skills.

Some highlights of the weekend include:

The oldest guy in the competition, Kim, won the intermediate class.

Some dude showed up, borrowed my board and took 2nd in the Pro Class.

BSBS rider Josh Watkins winning the Pro category for the 2nd year in a row.

BSBS rider Kenny Hegewald throwing the HUGEST whirlybird ever despite the fact he separated his bicep from his shoulder 4 weeks ago and still could barely hold the handle.

I ended up announcing from the starting dock all day so the only pictures I have are from set-up and tear down. Despite that fact, here they are:

Exclusive Content

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

I just ran across this article regarding Sprint signing an exclusive distribution deal with the NFL for mobile content.

What is the value of mobile content? This deal is rumored at $200 million base with up to $600 million over the life of the 5 year deal.

What are your thoughts?
Is this a marketing ploy to boost brand value? Is there a $100 million revenue stream ripe for the picking? Is exclusive content bad for consumers or for the NFL? Would the availability of any type of media sway you from one mobile provider to the next?

I am still waiting for a mobile company to build some value into the long term relationships it has already established with its customers. Don’t they get tired of churning customers back and forth every 2 years?

This weekend was packed with out of town visitors. Former H-towners include Jake Dodge, Janna Williams, Sara Black, Peter Schupp, and Terrible Hibbard. The cute girl next to the Buffalo is Jake’s special little lady Christine- she rocks though was working through a bit of Montana culture shock during her visit.

Ok, ok, Peter has been in Helena for quite some time, but we see so little of him its like he is visiting.

In other H-Town news Sara and Chris are back for a few months though I have yet to seem them. Brooke and Megan are off to NYC to pursue fame and fortune- good luck guys!

This is a shot of the tower that our internet is broadcast from. The signal gets shot about 14 miles (line of sight) to our house. We have a dish up, and get about 640 down and 256 up. Not bad for a last mile connection that costs under $100 a month.

I took this picture by holding my digi up to our telescope on our back patio. Bling!

Special note to Clem: I did leave my house today! I played 9 holes and shot one over with 4 birdies and 5 bogeys. No pars. Weird.

Getting back to the Idaho wakeboarding contest that I previously posted about. This was how the lake looked when we put the boat in.

This is how the lake looked 5 minutes into the cruise across to opposite shore where the event was being held. Luckily the rain stopped about 1.5 Hours later.

The Most Frequently Uttered Word Is….

“The”

Anticlimactic I know. Check out how your favorite word ranks at wordcount.org

I love the user interface on this site. Very reminiscent of the only timeline on the web that I actually read. (located at Weiden and Kennedy’s site)

3…2…1…INTERNET

After Months of struggle we have internet at the house!

Just Kidding

Friday, August 19th, 2005

After my last post we grabbed some lunch and decided to defy all common sense and hit the water and see if we could pull the comp off. Air Temp was about 60 and the wind was howling. We rallied straight into a rain squall and finally made it across to the event site.

Arrow Point is a pretty cool little marina on the far side of Lake Coeur d’Alene. The competition actually got started in fairly good water a few minutes early. The clouds were still vomiting rain and we sat in the chase boat getting soaked.

As the afternoon progressed the weather kept getting better and so did the riding. Some of the Intermediate/Advanced riders were throwing down. S-Bends, front and back rolls. Rolls to revert. I was really impressed to see that quality of riding in such mediocre conditions.

The pro class went off! Luckily the water got a little bit smoother and we could run the passes directly in front of the crowd. The riders were all super consistent thrown spinning invert after spinning invert.

Despite all odds we finished up about 10 minutes from sun down. All the competitors were stoked and the Event organizers threw down some sick prizes like a Hyperlite Premiere and Roam decks.

Cheers to the Idaho crew. You guys rock! We will see you next year!

Guacamole

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

Guacamole is evil. I’ll admit- I love it, but one taste and my life was never the same.

Lets face it, Guacamole is a gateway veggie. I was just an innocent youngster meat and potato-n along with out a worry in the world when it happened.

The 7-Layer bean dip had lettuce, tomatoes and onions.

Hmmm… I thought… guauc has onions and tomatoes in it…

That was the day my life changed. I’ve been seen ordering the occasional spinach salad or actually eating the nachos with everything on ‘em.

Damn you guacamole- you opened the door to veggies in my life. I might be healthier, but I am NOT happier.

Dear Readers- don’t let anyone fool you into thinking Guacamole is just a harmless condiment- one dollop and you might never be the same.
